Whitechapel

Whitechapel is rippled with history; it is probably the most interesting East End borough if you're just visiting the area. It was here, that the French Huguenot immigrants first set up camp in the 17th century, later the Jews and today the area is dominated by the Bangladeshi community.

Whitechapel Road is the main artery of the East End and the borough is a popular haunt for new media types and creatives - close enough to central London for work, different enough and with enough character to feel far away.

This is Jack the Ripper country and you can go on a historic walk tracing his gruesome trail. There are also ghost trails of the haunted East End for those so inclined. The famous Tower of London is also nearby, by the riverside.
