Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood
The Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood is an offshoot of the Victoria & Albert Museum, which houses an extensive collection of children's toys, some of which date back to the 17th century. The collection includes teddy bears, games, dolls, dollhouses, some of which have been donated by royalty, model trains, theatres and puppets.
The museum encourages people of all ages to explore the themes of childhood past and present and to be inspired by the creative designs, which have been displayed in a way that is accessible to all.
They run an innovative programme of temporary exhibitions, daily activities, seasonal events, and an excellent education programme with free teaching sessions and resources linked directly to the National Curriculum.
The museum has a strong commitment to cultural diversity and social inclusion and they have established close links with the local communities, via a diverse programme of collaborative visual arts and oral history projects.
