The Clifton was the first restaurant offering Indian and Bangladeshi food to be established in Brick Lane. From the early 50's it became a household name amongst the migrants from the Indian subcontinent who settled throughout the UK. And during the eighties the Clifton gained another audience by winning the approval of the mainstream food critics from all over the country. The Clifton's success helped Brick Lane become the Curry Capital of Europe.
